Fourth annual boat safety day includes free events, activities for all

Coast Guard Station Sheboygan and the Sheboygan Yacht Club are proud to announce their fourth annual Boating Safety Day event.

It will be held on Saturday, July 17 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Coast Guard Station located at 209 Pennsylvania Ave.

This year’s event is guaranteed to be an exciting, fun, and educational experience for the whole family. Events will include a flare shoot, where you can bring in your expired flares and have the Coast Guard teach you, in a safe and controlled environment, how to properly use them in the event of an emergency. There will also be hands-on, live-fire, portable fire-extinguisher training, put on by the Sheboygan Fire Department and Andre Fire Equipment.

In addition to the events mentioned above, boating safety information for children and adults will be available. There will be a nautical knot-tying table, heaving-line toss, Coast Guard boat tours, and much more.

History buffs can learn about the more than 130 year history of the Coast Guard in Sheboygan. For those interested in joining the Coast Guard team, an Active Duty and Auxiliary Coast Guard Recruiter will be on site to answer any and all questions.

There will also be several on-site displays from the Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, Sheboygan County Law Enforcement Dive team, Sheboygan Fire and Rescue, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Free vessel safety checks will be offered throughout the day by the Coast Guard Auxiliary at the Deland Boat Ramps. All boats, trailered or not, are welcomed for this free and informative safety inspection.

This year’s event will be a real family pleaser with things to do for all ages. Admission is free with food and beverages available for purchase from the Sheboygan Yacht Club.
