Flames torch Benders for third straight win

PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth Flames pounded out 19 hits to fuel a 24-5 rout over the West Bend Benders in baseball action Wednesday, July 11 at Carl Loebe Field.

The game counted as a Rock River Baseball League Northern Division game and a firstround game in the Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Classic tournament. The Flames, who have won three in a row, improved to 7-6 in the division (11-11 overall).

The Benders fell to 0-10 in league play.

Plymouth erupted for 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning, highlighted by the Jake Heinemeyer’s grand slam. Jake Steinhardt contributed a two run double. The Flames sent 14 batters to the plate, banged out six hits, drew three walks and had one hit batter.

Steinhardt led the Flames in hits with four, followed by Mike Daly with three. Four players had two hits each – Derek Hall, Zac Cain, Tyler Betry and Aus- tin Mork.

Heinemyer, Hall, Daly and Steinhardt paced Plymouth in RBIs with four each.

Steinhardt was the Flames’ starting pitcher and went three innings. He allowed no runs on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Mork picked up the win in relief. He pitched three frames and gave up four runs (all earned) on three hits with one walk, a hit batter and three strikeouts.

The game ended after 6½ innings due to the 10-run rule.

T.J. Sumner led the Benders in hits with three. Quin Hyndiuk belted a three-run homer and had a team-high four RBIs.

West Bend pitching allowed seven walks and hit four batters.
