SCHRC plans Lincoln tour

Sheboygan County Historical Research Center is set to embark on a four-day excursion to historic Springfield, Ill. Monday, Sept. 17 through Thursday, Sept. 20.

The trip will feature the captivating commentary of Steve Rogstad, a local Abraham Lincoln expert, as he takes guests on an adventure to where Lincoln spent a lot of his life.

On Monday, Sept. 17, guests will board a deluxe motor-coach to travel to Springfield and arrive about mid-day. The first stop is the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

After exploring the museum, which is 50 times bigger than any other presidential museum, guests will check in to the President Abraham Lincoln Doubletree Hotel.

On Tuesday, Sept. 18 and Wednesday, Sept. 19, the tour will visit the Old State Capital, the Illinois State Capital, the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, the Lincoln Tomb and the First Presbyterian Church.

On Thursday, Sept. 20, the tour departs to Lincoln’s New Salem, but on the way it will stop at the grave site of Ann Rutledge in Oakland Cemetery. Rutledge was thought to be Lincoln’s first love until she died at age 22. Costumed characters will represent people who lived there over 150 years ago.
