Public education

To the Editor,

Citizens have another opportunity to shape our government…the August 14th Partisan Primary election!

I want to influence state support of 4K thru post-secondary public education! Three personal reasons for that… grandchildren…two in public preK-12 and a freshman at a UW university!

I want a team leading state government who will ensure that all young people can experience a comprehensive public education. I support a team of Tony Evers-Kurt Kober for our next Governor-Lieutenant Governor!

Tony Evers, a Plymouth native, graduated from Plymouth High School, then went on to the University of Wisconsin- Madison, earning a bachelor's degree in 1973, a master's degree in 1976, and a doctor- ate in 1986.

Evers has served the students, parents and citizens of Wisconsin for over 34 years as a teacher, principal, superintendent, regional administrator, Deputy State Superintendent, and for the past nine years, our State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Gov. Walker made historic cuts to education in 2010. Evers has worked tirelessly to mitigate the damage and has proposed DPI budgets every two years to make education funding whole again. In fact, Walker’s present two-year education funding in the budget, is mainly what Evers proposed.

Kurt Kober, from Sheboygan, running for Lt. Governor, would make a great team with Evers. Kober grew up in Sheboygan and appreciates the preparation he had for the business world after his education in the Sheboygan Public Schools and attending the UW-Green Bay. He will be an “activist” Lt. Governor and I am pleased by his comment that… “If we want to improve education in Wisconsin, to restore our standing as a national model in this area, we need to invest in our students and our teachers.”

I urge citizens to find out more about this “team” I would like to see leading our state government. Vote to support our public schools.
