“I wouldn’t mind working there someday...”

DAVE BOEHLER DAVE BOEHLER Hey, wait a second! This guy doesn’t look like Greg …

Perhaps that was your first thought when glancing at the sports page.

But in case you haven’t heard, Greg Ceilley has retired after 30 years of covering sports for The Review.

Now it’s my turn.

I’m 45, so I can’t promise I’ll be the sports editor as long as him. But I assure you I will work just as hard and bring as much passion to the paper.

I admit I do not know central Sheboygan County as well as he does, but I’m no stranger, either.

Although I grew up in Milwaukee and still live there, I’ve thought of Plymouth and Elkhart Lake as my “up north” getaway.

My parents took me to Plymouth Rock Campground when I was around 5 years old and I’ve been hooked ever since.

It’s been a summer tradition to return to the area to camp, golf, see a race or enjoy a steak sandwich at City Club or cheese curds at the Tiki Bar. Throughout the years, I even thought to myself on numerous occasions when walking past The Review’s office that I wouldn’t mind working there someday.

Today is that day.

I bring 20-plus years of experience to the Review, beginning with my first job as a sports editor at The Dunn County News in Menomonie after attending Winona State University.

I was hired at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 1996 and over the years covered high school sports, the Admirals and the Wave until I was let go as a result of layoffs last summer.

The Kenosha News also hired me to cover prep sports for almost three years but I was furloughed once again in February.

Thinking my journalism days were numbered – I still remain a freelance writer who covers a few Bucks and Brewers games for the Associated Press – I was delighted to find out The Review was hiring.

And so here I am, only this time it isn’t for a short vacation.
