EL boys hope to help NH co-op

There are just two seniors on the New Holstein/ Elkhart Lake boys co-op soccer team for first-year coach John Moore.

Moore was a coach for 13 years in the Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah Athletic Association, primarily for middle school teams and several U-12 and U-14 programs.

“So a lot of these boys, the incoming freshmen class, the incoming sophomore class, even some of the juniors, I have coached in previous years,” Moore said. “All of the Elkhart kids, for sure, and even some of the New Holstein kids started co-opping back in middle school. And so a lot of these kids I’ve already known and coached.

Moore will decide who plays varsity this week, as practice started on Monday. The team’s first game is against visiting Kohler on Aug. 28.

Resorters in the program include juniors A.J. Waage and Alex Borisenko, sophomore Deegan Kossman and six freshmen.

Moore says he wants to play together as a team in order to be competitive.

“And really try to look forward to what we have in the future in terms of building the program in upcoming years,” he said. “But we’re very young. We’ll hope to be as competitive as we can and the biggest goal is to play as a team.”
