Riverdogs earn playoff spot

The reigning East Shore League baseball champion will have a chance to defend its title.

Howards Grove clinched a playoff berth with a 5-3 victory over visiting Mount Calvary on Sunday to improve its record to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the second half.

“Last year was our first year in the league and we surprised some teams,” Riverdogs coach Mark Holzman said. “We definitely saw everybody's best this season. We had a few close games that we didn't win this year, so we had to battle all the way until the end to make it happen. At 10-5, I feel that's respectable, and we're in position where we've got a good team and we can beat anybody. It's just a matter of making the plays and getting some key hits.”
