Second Saturdays speakers series scheduled

The Sheboygan County Historical Research Center announces its schedule for the 2018-2019 free season of Second Saturdays Journeys into Local History speakers’ series. All presentations take place at the Plymouth Arts Center, 520 E. Mill St., Plymouth . Presentations begin at 9:30 a.m.

Sept. 8 - Ked Fairbank, Chicago Maritime Museum - Lake Michigan Aircraft carriers - In 1942, with the nation engaged in war against Japan, there was an acute need for pilots trained to land on aircraft carriers. Commander Richard Whitehead argued that the secure waters of the Great Lakes was the best place. Oct. 13 - Michael Jacobs, UW– Sauk Center/Baraboo - The 1918 Influenza Epidemic.

Nov. 10 - Jerry Apps, author, historian - One-room schools.

Dec. 8 - To be announced.

Jan. 12, 2019 - John Eastberg, executive director, Pabst Mansion - Victorians Going Over The Top: the Excesses of the American Gilded Age and Lost and Found: The Best of Milwaukee’s Victorian Architectural Past.

Feb. 9, 2019 - Sheboygan Symphony, 100th Anniversary.

March 9, 2019 - James Kieselberg, director, Grohmann Museum of Work at MSOE.

April 13, 2019 . Joel Greenberg, author and birder extraordinaire - Hope is the Things With Feathers.

May 11, 2019 . Dave Desimone, director - Black Point Estate and Gardens, Wisconsin Historical Society.
