Site created for bright ideas

The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) and City of Sheboygan announce the launch of FreshTechInnovation.com. This website is devoted to sharing with the world the concept plans, progress and vision of Wisconsin’s first Innovation District, FreshTech.

Visitors to the site will see concept plans for the District, plans for the first Innovation hub, currently named the “LaunchPad.” The entities will soon be hosting an Innovation Summit with area businesses and educators to plan the programming in that facility.

“The urban core of Sheboygan is the cultural center of our community. We have art centers, urban parks, a beautiful waterfront, shopping, dining, entertainment and now we need higher education and corporation headquarters,” stated Sheboygan Mayor Michael Vandersteen.

“FreshTech will complement those uses and provide value to the firms that want to surround their employees with quality of life amenities that will aid in talent attracting and retention.”

An Innovation District is an area where universities, and companies cluster to connect with start-ups and each other to drive new technologies and innovation. Such places become magnets for the world’s best and brightest.

“The SCEDC has been working hard to solve the local labor challenges including building housing and partnering on Someplace Better,” states Gary Dulmes, SCEDC Chair. “Now we must focus on a long-term strategy to ensure Sheboygan County builds a strong talent magnet for technical talent and entrepreneurs needed to sustain companies and area in this era of global competition.”
