ELKHART LAKE – It was a night of thank-yous – given and received – for the Village Board Monday.

With a light agenda, Village President Alan Rudnick used his report to praise those involved in the village Tree Lighting ceremony and the first-ever Santa Steam Visit to Elkhart Lake.

“I thought it was a great event,” Rudnick said of the holiday kickoff the day after Thanksgiving.

“I’d like to thank Plymouth Mayor Don Pohlman for sharing that event with us,” Rudnick said of the visit of the steam train carrying Santa Claus. “We had a lot of people in both locations and hopefully the village and the city of Plymouth can do other things together in the future.”

“It was fantastic for business,” Trustee Lynn Shovan said, echoing Rudnick’s comments on the holiday events. “Everybody I talked to loved it. We just kind of have a picturesque place for it,” she said of the steam train parked at the depot building.

“A ton of people commented to me and said it was the best event ever,” Rudnick agreed, noting that the turnout for the evening was the biggest ever.

In her report, Village Administrator/Clerk/Treasurer Jessica Reilly shared a note from School District Administrator Ann Buechel Haack thanking the board for their support of last month’s successful school referendum.
