Council enacts speed-limit reduction

by Jeff Pederson

The Sheboygan Falls Common Council voted in favor of an ordinance to reduce the speed limit on a portion of Fond du Lac Avenue and County C, during a semimonthly meeting Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the City Hall Municipal Building.

The ordinance lowers the speed limit along Fond du Lac Avenue and County C, between Bluebird Lane and Main Street, from 35 mph to 25 mph.

The speed-limit reduction was made to address cross traffic and congestion concerns, involving motorists traveling east into the city on County C.

In other business, approved a motion to support the contract agreement between Orange Cross Ambulance Service and Sheboygan County.

“The Sheboygan County and Orange Cross have agreed to a three-year contract, which is pending the support of the municipalities throughout the county,” Public Safety Committee Chairman Duane Glancey said.

The council approved the hiring of Sara Coenen as a part-time utility billing clerk for Sheboygan Falls Utilities.

“This hiring is necessary mainly because Alliant Energy is no longer providing some of the services that it has in the past,” Finance and Personnel Committee Chairman Randy Messner said. “This is something we will be seeing more of in the next year or so, with less work being done by outside entities and more work falling onto the city.

“That will be the case next year when the county stops doing our tax collecting,” he said.

The council granted a school/travel request for Kathy Stange to attend the 2010 Municipal Court Clerk Seminar Nov. 4-5, in Middleton.

The council also approved operator-license applications for Tracy L. Moenning and Katharine I. Jennerman, as well as an electrical journeyman license application for James Gardner.

Mayor Randy Meyer announced the city will hold its Halloween Trick-or-Treat hours Sunday, Oct. 31, from 4-7 p.m.

Meyer also announced that leaf pickup will begin Monday, Oct. 18 and run through Wednesday, Nov. 24.

The council met in closed session, during a Public Safety Committee to discussion crime-prevention strategies.

The next Sheboygan Falls Common Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers at the City Hall Municipal Building.
