Falls Kiwanis Club installs new officers

The Sheboygan Falls Kiwanis Club celebrated the conclusion of its 48th year of service to the community with an Installation Banquet Wednesday, Sept. 28, at The Villager in Sheboygan Falls.

Retiring President Brian Passehl presented Outstanding Service Awards to Nancy Verstrate and Kevin Kolb and presented Carl Paul with the Kiwanian of the Year Award.

Paul also received recognition as the only member of the club to have achieved perfect attendance at all 51 meetings this past year.

Receiving Outstanding Membership Awards were Charlotte Harlin, Karen Lind and Rhonda Anderson.

Passehl thanked everyone for their efforts, which have made the club so successful over the last year.

Passehl also presented Kiwanis District No. 11 Lt. Governor, Lynn Messer, who is a member of the Sheboygan Falls Kiwanis Club, with his Kiwanis Lt. Governor pin.

Messer presented a message on “What To Be As A Kiwanian” and then conducted the installation of the new officers.

He first thanked retiring board member Dorothy Schueffner and then installed new board members Mary Blaha, Char Harlin and Karen Lind.

Messer then installed the incoming officers, who are President Darlene Navis, President Elect, Kevin Kolb, 2nd Vice President Eric Hesselink, Secretary Nancy Verstrate and Treasurer Carl Paul.

He then presented retiring President Brian Passehl with his past president pin. Passehl will continue to serve on the board in that capacity for another year.

Verstrate gave a video presentation titled “Kiwanis…Here Now…Here to Stay,” which highlighted the many projects the club has undertaken during the past year, such as the Kiwanis tree nursery, Teddy Bear drive, food pantry drives, Christmas child shoeboxes and Packer pig roast.

Paula Thalacker, the division trustee, was a guest and presented a message on how the Kiwanis clubs are part of a larger entity of community, district and international service.

President Darlene Navis then concluded the evening with a forward look at the challenges ahead and called the membership to increased service for the community and its children.
