Panthers 3-1 in EWC tourney, take third overall

WAUPUN – The Plymouth Panthers posted a 3-1 dual record in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference Girls Volleyball Tournament here Saturday to capture third in the overall EWC race.

PHS finished the EWC season with a 10-4 dual mark. The Panthers were 7-3 in league play heading into the tourney.

Sheboygan Falls earned a share of the EWC title with a 4-0 tourney record, including a 19-25, 25-16, 25- 20, 25-19 win over three-time defending conference champion Waupun. It was the first loss in conference play (in two leagues, including the EWC) in the last 103 matches for the Warriors. Waupun joined the EWC in 2007.

Waupun and Falls had 13-1 overall dual records in the EWC.

The Panthers’ only loss in the tournament was against Falls, 23-25, 22-25, 12-25.

PHS owned victories over Kiel, 25-17, 22-25, 16-25, 25-19, 15-10; New Holstein, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-12; and Kewaskum, 22-25, 21-25, 25-11, 15-11.

JoJo Egerer led PHS in spike kills on the day with 54. Emma Addy had a team-high 117 assists.

Michelle Hilke led the Panthers in digs with 45 and Clarice Hnilicka had 38.

“The girls played awesome. A great way to end the conference season,” said PHS head coach Peggy Huhn.

“JoJo Egerer had a great match against Kewaskum with 22 spike kills. “Very consistent play again by Emma Addy. Great bench play by Liz Schultz and Erin Drees as well as Lizzie Rooker. Clarice Hnilicka played very well,” Huhn said.
