Lindstrom propels Tigers to victory

FOND DU LAC – Junior guard Alexis Lindstrom’s 20 points and career-high 12 steals ignited the Howards Grove Tigers to a 49-38 girls basketball win over host St. Mary’s Springs Thursday night.

Lindstrom exploded for 11 points in the second quarter to spark the Tigers who outscored the Ledgers 18-3 to seize a 29-11 halftime lead. The nonconference victory upped Howards’ record to 5-3 overall.

“We had a huge quarter. Our defense really picked up and they struggled against our press,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.

“Overall, we still did not shoot a great field-goal percentage (38 percent) but our defense was the key to winning this game.

“Offensively, we had some balance this game. This is something I want my team to continue to do a better job of,” Georgeff said.

Lindstrom also led Howards in assists with five. Karlie Fermanich was second in steals with three. Karyssa Gallenberger and Brianna Morgen contributed three assists apiece.

Steph Bergman paced the Tigers in rebounds with 10.

“She [Bergman] went after the rebounds hard and that statistic really was big for us,” the Tiger coach said. H owards had an impressive 16 offensive boards and 18 steals.


In the junior varsity contest, the Tigers jumped out to a 16-5 lead after one quarter en route to a 44-24 rout. Howards hiked its record to 7-0 overall.

Brittany Wehrmann sparked the Tigers with a team-high 13 points, five blocked shots and five steals. Megan Plahmer added 10 points and four assists.
